FWOP Fall: Dr. Horrible, One Acts

sept2012_horribleThe Franklin W. Olin Players (FWOP)—Olin’s resident theater group—will put on two shows this fall.
One, a collection of one-act plays, will be staged during family weekend. The other, which will take place October 11–13, is Joss Whedon’s cult internet musical Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. An aspiring supervillain video-blogs about his attempted heists and (lack of a) love life. In the course of an attempted theft, he accidentally introduces his crush Penny to his nemesis (the entirely unsympathetic hero Captain Hammer). It’s the motivation he needs to ramp up his villainy, with disastrous consequences.

Auditions for Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog will take place Saturday and Monday, September 1 and 3, at 4–6pm each day. (You only need to attend one day of auditions.) Come prepared with a short selection from a song, ideally a musical theater song. (Also bring the sheet music for your selection if you’d like piano accompaniment.) You will be asked to read scenes from the script. Callbacks may be held on the evening of September 4. If you are interested but unable to attend auditions, contact fwop@olin.edu to arrange an alternative time. If you’re interested in tech, please contact me as well. We’re especially looking for help with costuming, props, lighting, sound, set building, and run crew.

We are looking for directing bids for short plays (preferably less than 30 minutes in length) or individual scenes from longer plays. Contact fwop@olin.edu to submit a proposal. For interested directors without specific pieces in mind, we can offer suggestions.
